University of Science & Technology Chittagong (USTC) was established in the year 1989 with the sponsorship of a private charity. USTC is a private university which was started as Institute of Applied Health Sciences (IAHS). After a few years, the university was upgraded to a full phased university after the promulgation of the Private University Act, 1992.
Initially, USTC had only two professors and nine lecturers whereas now the number of full-time teachers is 355 and almost 4,200 students. Out of the total strength around 1200 students are from other countries like India, Nepal, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Jordan, Palestine, and the United States, among others. The university not only provides academic courses to the students but also encourages the students to take active participation in extracurricular activities such as sports and games, debates, seminars and cultural activities.
