On 11th December 2023, the Under Graduate Medical Education Board of the National Medical Council announced a significant measure to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the academic progress of MBBS students. Specifically, the Board granted an additional attempt for the MBBS students who were admitted to medical colleges during the academic year 2020-21 and failed to qualify for their first professional MBBS examination.
The batch of students admitted in the academic year 2020-21 has been particularly affected by the pandemic, resulting in an adverse impact on their academic performance. In light of these challenging circumstances, the National Medical Council deemed it necessary to introduce this one-time measure to provide relief to the affected students.
It is essential to note that this measure is a one-time exception and should not be considered a precedence for future admissions. Students are advised to go through the official notification of the National Medical Council for further information.
