NBEMS Introduces Mandatory Time-Bound Sections in Computer-Based Exams

May 5, 2024

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has announced a significant update to its MCQ-based exams, such as NEET-PG, NEET-MDS, NEET-SS, FMGE, and others. To fortify exam security, NBEMS will now incorporate mandatory time-bound sections in all its computer-based tests. This proactive measure addresses emerging threats during exams and seeks to bolster the integrity of the assessment process. With this change, question papers will be divided into timed sections.

For instance, in NEET-PG 2024, candidates will encounter five time-bound sections (A, B, C, D & E) in the question paper. Each section will consist of 40 questions, with 42 minutes of allotted time.

  1. Candidates will be restricted from proceeding to the next section until they complete the allotted time for the previous section.
  2. Candidates will not be allowed to review the questions or modify their responses for a section after the completion of its allotted time.
  3. The questions for the next section will start automatically after the completion of the allotted time for the previous section.
  4. Candidates will, however, have the option to mark any question, whether attempted or not, for review. This enables candidates to revisit marked questions in a section before the allotted time for that section ends. It’s crucial to note that questions marked for review will be evaluated according to the marking scheme mentioned in the Information Bulletin of the respective examination.

The number of time-restricted sections in an exam may vary depending on the total number of questions and operational feasibility.

The new mandatory time-bound sections will apply to GPAT 2024, NEET-PG 2024, and future computer-based tests by NBEMS. Candidates should review the exam scheme in the Information Bulletin for NEET-PG 2024/GPAT 2024 accordingly.

For any queries or clarifications regarding this new system, candidates can contact NBEMS at 011-45593000 or visit the NBEMS Communication Web Portal  https://exam.natboard.edu.in/communication.php?page=main

This significant change underscores NBEMS’s commitment to maintaining the integrity and fairness of its examinations while adapting to emerging challenges in the digital age.
