Dr. Rakesh Vats has been appointed the new Secretary-General Medical Council of India for over a period of 1 Year. He is an Indian Administrative Service Official. He was formerly the Chairman of the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority. We can also call him India’s drug price’s watchdog.
The Medical Council Of India was established in the year 1934. The main function of the MCI is to establish uniform standards of higher education in the field of medicine and the recognization of medical colleges in both India and abroad.
Objectives of Medical Council of India:
Maintain uniform standards of medical education for both UG and PG.
Recommendation for recognition/ de-recognition of medical qualification of medical institutes of India or Abroad.
Permanent/provisional registration of doctors with recognized medical qualifications.
Mutual relations with foreign countries in order of mutual recognition of medical qualification.
Dr. Rakesh Vats has worked as a Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Urban Development. In addition to the field experience of Revenue administration in the districts and secretariat of the state government, He is a medical professional by his education and has worked in the radiotherapy department for 3 years before joining the administration. Many initiatives of the Ministry of Health in policy related to the use of drugs, medical devices, and food standards have been his uttermost priority concern.
