Coronavirus disease is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It has become a pandemic in which almost every human being around the globe is being infected.
By now, we may very well know the symptoms of the virus and how it spreads. However, we would like to keep a reminder to everyone.
If you have a cold, cough, fever, muscle pain, headache, dyspnoea, difficulty in breathing, you must contact your doctor immediately and stay at home. You may never know who hosts the virus because it takes around 5 to 14 days to detect if the person is infected.
The virus has been spreading aggressively and the main way of its transmission is through droplets that are sneezed or coughed by the infected person. It can also spread through contaminated objects which are touched by the person who carries the virus.
Often times we don’t pay attention to what and where we touched. But we should be well aware of our surroundings. We frequently touch the telephones, mobile phones/pager, door knobs/handles, lift/elevator buttons, keypad mouse, chair arms, handrails, side rails of stretchers, and so on.
We must ensure that we keep our surroundings clean. Sweep and mop the house twice a day, clean the handrails of the stairs and grill daily, lifts to be wiped on all sides including the floor, main doors door handles, knobs to be cleaned every few hours, recreation clubs to be cleaned twice a day, common waiting areas to be clean in every few hours. Ensure that every area is sanitized with alcohol-based sanitizers or washed with soap and water.
Vehicles should also be cleaned and sanitized properly to avoid the spread of the aggressive virus.
It can be carried in hands and can be spread easily from human to human. Therefore, the healthcare institutes have advised and keep reminding us that we have to wash our hands frequently and for 20 seconds long to remove all dirt and virus that is carried in our hands. So, wash your hands thoroughly by following the 8 steps:
- Wet your hand with water and apply soap
- Rub your hand palm to palm.
- Rub your palm over the back of the other hand
- Scrub between your fingers.
- Back of fingers to opposing palms with fingers interlocked.
- Clean both thumbs.
- Rinse hands thoroughly
- Finally, pad dry your hands.
Take good care of yourself. Prevent yourself and your family from Coronavirus. Stay at home and avoid going to crowded areas.
Following the advisory, we believe that people would take proactive actions. While keen to ensure that others take the matter seriously both for personal health and particularly for the health of others.
