Class 12 students of the batch of 2020-21 have witnessed another major change. After the postponement of class 12 CBSE board exams on 14th April 2021, followed by the speculation of major changes in the examination pattern on 25th May 2021, and finally the cancellation of class 12 board exam per the call of Honourable Prime Minister Mr. Narender Modi on 1st June 2021. The reason for all these changes was the constantly rising covid cases in the country and the student’s safety regarding it.
In a notification issued on 1 June 2021 by the CBSE, it was stated that “The class 12 assessment will be made as per well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner. It is decided that the students who are not satisfied with the assessments, an option to appear in the examination would be provided by the CBSE as and when the situation becomes conducive.”
Following the same statement, CBSE has announced the new score-plan for the Class 12 students today to the Honourable Supreme Court of India to the bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari. As per the announcement, the final marks of the student for class 12 will be based upon one’s performance in the previous classes of 10 and 11.
The total aggregate of class 12 will include 40% of pre-board score and 30 % each of class 11 final exam and best of three for class 10.
“If a student is unable to meet the qualifying criteria – now spread across three years of study- they will be placed in the “essential repeat” or “compartment” category. Students who are not satisfied can appear again when the CBSE conducts the Class 12 board exams,” Attorney General KK Venugopal told the court.
The court has accepted the proposed Evaluation Plan for the CBSE Class 12 students.
CBSE Class 12 Evaluation Plan | |
Pre-Board | 40% |
Class 11 Final Exam | 30% |
Class 10 (Best of 3) | 30% |
According to media reports, the results for class 12 are expected to be announced on July 31. CISCE will be submitting its own evaluation criteria to the Supreme Court on 21st June 2021. Hence the students of the CISCE board will have to wait for a few more days for the final decision.
