In violation to its guidelines that stated that 30 September 2023 was the deadline for MBBS admission in India. Anyone who has been admitted to MBBS seat after the said deadline now runs the risk of having his/her admission canceled.
More than 600 students gained admission to MBBS after the deadline of September 30th, 2023. This deadline was set by the Supreme court. The mismanagement of several states has resulted in more than 2000 MBBS seats going to waste.
All these seats will remain vacant for the course period unless the Supreme court extends the deadline. In a statement made earlier, for supreme court to extend the deadline, ‘seats lying vacant’ is not a justifiable reason.
Medical education board director Shambhu Sharan Kumar said that states like Maharashatra, Bihar and Bengal conducted online and offline MBBS counseling beyond the cutoff date. In Maharashtra however the cut-off date was not an issue. At least 141 mbbs seats were filled in the stray vacancy round, in violation of the NMC rules. These admission have now been declared invalid.
