Every year the government of India conducts a postgraduate medical entrance test for admission to MD, MS, PG Diploma programs for the academic session in any given year.
In the second half of yesterday, a group of student doctors wrote to the Supreme Court asking for a postponement of the NEET-PG medical entrance exams. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India, SA Bobde, was scheduled to hear the matter today. As per the reports, the petitioners said that forcing doctors, who treat coronavirus patients on a daily basis, to attend a physical exam would put thousands of lives at risk.
As the issue hiked up even more after the CBSE announced the postponement of Class 12 Board Examinations and its cancellation for Class 10, the Under Secretary of Government of India, Mr. Amit Biwas signed the dotted line for the notice regarding the NEET-PG 2021 Exam date.
The notice as issued on 15th April 2021, by the Medical Education Division of Department of Health and family welfare under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of Government of India, withdraws its earlier notice of 13th April 2021. The new notice states that in regards to the current surge in the Covid positive cases across the country the government has decided to postpone the NEET-PG Exam 2021 once again. The exam was already postponed to the month of April from January 2021. Recently NBE has also released the admit cards for the same.
Earlier the expected date of NEET-UG Exam 2021 was scheduled to be on 18th April 2021. The date is further extended keeping in view the health concerns of the applicants as well as the staff.
Taking to Twitter, the incumbent Minister of Science and Technology, Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Minister of Earth Sciences, Dr. Harsh Vardhan wrote, “In light of the surge in COVID-19 cases, the Government of India has decided to postpone the NEET-PG 2021 exam, which was earlier scheduled to be held on April 18. Next date is to be decided later. The decision has been made keeping the well-being of our young medical students in mind.”
The authorities are yet to declare the new date for the Exam. The students are advised to visit the official website of the National Board of Examination for more information.
