The central government on Wednesday, 14-04-2021, announced the cancellation of the Class 10 board exam and postponed the board exams for class 12. The class 12 Board exam was earlier scheduled for May and June.
Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narender Modi, the high-level meeting came to this decision in the wake of rising cases of coronavirus infection for both new and old variants. The meeting was attended by the Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, the education secretary, and various other officials of the directorates of education.
Yesterday, a similar decision was taken by the Maharashtra government as well due to the rapidly increasing cases of a viral outbreak in the region. As most of the schools, work under the guidelines of CBSE, various state representatives such as that of Delhi, Punjab, and others have already written to PM Modi and Union Education Minister to postpone the Class 10 and Class 12 Board Exam due to the second wave of coronavirus and presented their worries about the student’s safety.
In the official statement released by the Union Education Ministry, it has been said,” Looking to the present situation of the pandemic and school closures, and also taking into account the safety and well-being of the students, it is decided as follows. The board Exam for Class 12 to be held from May 4th to June 14th, 2021 is hereby postponed. These exams will be held hereafter”.
The ministry further stated that the new dates of these exams will be declared only after reviewing the situation on 1st June 2021 by the board. The details will then be shared subsequently about the same. The statement also coaxed the students that they will get the notice at least 15 days prior to the start of the examination.
As for Class 10, the officials have decided to promote the students on the basis of the internal assessments. In the same regard, the issued statement stated,” The results of Class Xth board will be prepared on an objective criterion to be developed by the board. Any student who is not satisfied with the marks allocated to him/her on this basis will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam and when the conditions are conducive to hold the examination.”
