On February 12, 2025, Rus Education hosted an exclusive Live Session featuring the newly appointed Rector of Tver State Medical University (TSMU), Prof. Sonis Alexander Grigorievich. The session provided valuable insights into his vision, strategic initiatives, and future plans for the university, reaffirming TSMU’s commitment to academic excellence and global medical education.
Prof. Grigorievich stands as a distinguished figure at Tver State Medical University, bringing in his decades of experience and expertise in medical education, research, and clinical practice.
Born in Kuibyshev in 1967, Prof. Sonis Alexander graduated from Samara State Medical University (1992), balancing his studies with two years of service in the Soviet Army due to the country’s social and political landscape. His professional journey began at the Department of General Surgery, where he progressed from senior laboratory assistant (1992) to associate professor (2002–2011). Since 1993, he has worked as a surgeon, later becoming the department head in 2011. His leadership extends beyond clinical practice, having held key administrative roles, including Vice-Rector for Medical Work (2014–2016) and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine (2010–2014). Holding a Doctor of Medical Sciences degree (2011), he has contributed immensely to medical research, with 149 publications, six patents, and numerous accolades, including the Provincial Prize in Science (2004) and an Honorary Diploma from the Russian Ministry of Health (2015). Prof. Grigorievich continues to be an instrumental leader in medical education, research, and healthcare innovation, and today, he is the newly appointed Rector of one of the best medical universities in Russia – Tver State Medical University.

During the session, Prof. Grigorievich highlighted the ongoing endeavors in medical education, research, and the growing international partnerships of the university. Furthermore, the webinar was enhanced by the Q&A session, giving medical aspirants clarity on various aspects of studying MBBS at Tver State Medical University.

Prof. Grigorievich also outlined his plans to establish a specialized institute for foreign students within the campus and expand opportunities for international students to pursue degrees in Dentistry and Pharmaceuticals at the university.
Furthermore, he emphasized the university’s commitment to student safety, ensuring a secure and supportive environment for Indian and international MBBS aspirants studying in Russia.
